Spring into Chapter 2 of 2023
In my Erykah Badu voice, “Sista’ s how y’all feel? Brotha’s y’all alright?”
The first quarter of this year was full of high and lows.
The loss of a few loved ones.
The high of working on a project for Netflix and the low of not hearing back from some productions as to whether or not you’re still being considered to join their team.
I always take a non-response or a no as something that’s not meant for me.
It is an interesting time in the entertainment and media industry. With eyeballs tuned into TikTok for more hours than some streaming networks, and a looming writer’s strike, many networks have cut programming hours being produced.
This is currently making it harder for individuals in the industry to find a job or keep one.
My colleagues are saying, “it is unusually slow for this time of year.” As many of them are currently struggling with unemployment.
Tiktok has an impending band in the United States and the technology industry is reimagining many required positions that humans once did as we turn to more AI(artificial intelligence), making life interesting. Especially in an economic recession.
Unanswered questions I’ve been playing on repeat in my mind:
- Are influencers necessary? Or, have they caused more harm to the mentality of humanity than good?
- Do influencers ever ask themselves, what makes them an influencer? Especially when most of what I see being created by influencers is unoriginal and regurgitated jargon that has already been done by 10-thousand influencers before them.
- What does it truly mean to be a creator in 2023?
- If social media didn’t exist, what would all of the influencers have become in life?
But, enough about my rant on social media. I just find a lot more wrong than right with it as I evolve.
There are so many more hot topics that have been lingering on my mind, like:
- Reparations for African Americans in the United States
- Student loan forgiveness
- Gun safety and reform
- The White people of the United States constantly magnifying dismay of predominantly white countries abroad and shedding very little to no light and sending very little relief to those of darker complexion.
I write all of these thoughts and questions to perhaps reach you in letting you know you’re not alone in your thoughts, concerns, questions or journey.
But, I as I always say, stay positive and keep your head to the sky.
“The world is a mirror, forever reflecting what you are doing within yourself.”
